8 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation The Map P age Using the Map Page The Map Page is the primary navigation feature of the GPSmap 60CS. The Map Page displays a detailed map of the area surr ounding your cur - rent location. It allows you to pan the map with the ROCKER key as well as view your progr ess when navigating.
9 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation The Map P age Zoom In Using Map Page F eatures Use the Zoom In and Out buttons to change the map scale in order to show more map area with less detail or less map ar ea with more detail. Press and hold to Zoom the map scale rapidly .

It uses traditional navigation displays to provide navigation information. Whenever navigation is in progr ess, the Compass Page provides navi- gation data and directions.
15 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation The Compass P age The Electronic Compass When you manually turn the Compass Off, it stays of f until you manually turn it On again. Sometimes, however , when you turn the Compass On, the GPSmap 60CS overrides the Compass and uses the GPS receiver to track your heading.
16 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation The Compass P age Calibrating the Electronic Compass The Electronic Compass must be calibrated outdoors when you fi rst use the GPSmap 60CS and after new batteries have been installed.

21 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation The Altimeter P age Y ou can customize the ‘View’ option displays using the ‘Zoom Ranges’ option to determine time, distance, pressure, and elevation parameters. If you know the correct elevation for your location, you can increase the accuracy of the altimeter using the ‘ Calibrate Altimeter’ option.

25 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation The Altimeter P age Calibrate Altimeter Because the GPSmap 60CS relies on the Bar ometric pressure to determine the elevation and the pressure at any given elevation can fl uctuate, you can calibrate the altimeter to increase its accuracy .
26 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation The T rip Computer P age Using the T rip Computer Page The T rip Computer Page provides you with a wide variety of travel data useful when navigating a long distance. It indicates your current speed, average speed, trip odometer and many other helpful statistics useful for navigation.
27 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation The Mark Waypoint P age The Mark W aypoint Page allows you to mark and record your curr ent (or any other) location as a waypoint and appears with name for that waypoint and a waypoint symbol. Y ou can mark your current location from any page on the GPSmap 60CS.
28 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation T o create a waypoint using the map panning arrow: 1. With the Map P age displayed, move the panning arrow (map pointer) to the map item you want use as a w aypoint. If there is information in the mapping database for that location it will highlight momentarily and display a name or address .
29 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation A new waypoint location can be averaged over time to produce a mor e accurrate location, but only while the GPS has a fix and before saving it. T o average a Waypoint Location using measur ements over time: 1. With the “New Waypoint” information page displayed.
30 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using W aypoints T o Move a W aypoint on the Map P age: 1. Use the Find F eature to display the Information Page for the desired waypoint. (Refer to page 33.) 2. Highlight the “Map” button at the bottom of the page and press ENTER to display the waypoint on the map .
31 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Find Menu Using Find Using the Find Menu The Find Feature pr ovides you with a method for searching for W aypoints, Cities, and Exits which are included in the GPSmap 60CS basemap. Y ou can also fi nd W aypoint and Geocache Points you have saved.
32 GPSmap 60CS Searching for a location using Find By Name If you know the name of the location you want to find, the Find By Name search option may be the easiest method of sear ching. To fi nd a location using Find By Name: 1. Press the FIND k ey to display the Find Menu.
33 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using Find Using the Find Item Information Page When you have selected a Find item and pressed the ENTER key , an Information Page displays with detailed information about the item.
34 GPSmap 60CS W aypoint Information P age Options include “ Average Location” The Find Information Page Options Menu offers eight options for using a Find Item as a tool for navigation. T o use the Find Item Information P age Options Menu: 1. With an Information page displayed for a Find item, press the MENU k ey to display the Options Menu.
35 GPSmap 60CS • Change Refer ence - Point to a new location on the map Page using the Panning Arrow and pr ess ENTER . • Set Pr oximity - Program an alarm to sound when you are within a speci fied radius of an item defined by the Information Page.
36 GPSmap 60CS Searching for a W aypoint The W aypoints List is your storage file for all created and saved waypoints. W aypoints can be created from marking your location, pointing to a place on the map or saving any other Find item (i.e. city , restaurant) as a waypoint.
37 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using Find Searching for a Geocache The Find Geocache feature allows you to view the list of geocache locations that have been either , created using the GPSmap 60CS or down- loaded from your computer .
38 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using Find Searching for a City The Find Cities feature allows you to sear ch for any city listed in the mapping database (either in the basemap or from downloaded detailed mapping data).
39 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using Find Searching for an Inter state Exit The Find Exits feature allows you to sear ch for the nearest Interstate Exits. 1. Press the FIND button to display the Find Menu. 2. Select the Exits icon, then press ENTER to display the Exit List.
40 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using Find Searching for an Address The Find Addresses feature allows you to sear ch for an address within the coverage of downloaded detailed mapping data. Enter the street number , street name and city and the Find Feature will match that data with addresses in the map database.
41 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using Find Searching for an Inter section The Find Intersections feature allows you to sear ch for an intersection within the coverage of downloaded detailed mapping data. Enter the two street names and city and the Find Feature will match that data with intersections in the map database.
42 GPSmap 60CS Searching for a P oint of Interest Y ou can use the Find Point of Interest feature to locate a nearby restaurant, lodging, landmark, public building, park, etc. However , you must have downloaded MapSource detailed mapping that supports this feature otherwise these options, plus Address and Intersection options, are not functional.
43 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation The Main Menu About the Main Menu The Main Menu is the directory for all unit features not in the Main Page sequence with the excep- tion of Mark W aypoint and Find, which are accessed by pressing the FIND and MARK keys. The T ime and Date can be found at the bottom of this page.
44 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using a T rack Log The T racks feature creates an electr onic trail on the map page as you travel about and is referred to as a T rack Log. A track log contains infor - mation about points along its path, including time, position, elevation and depth (requires NMEA input, see page 56).

Because a track is made of a series of points that defi ne your path of travel, they can be placed a specifi ed “Distance” apart or placed at a “T ime” interval you specify .

The Saved T rack P age allows you to: Rename the tr ack, view the track distance , view the calculated area encompassed by the track (an area is defi ned even if the tr ack is open ended), specify a color for the track when displayed on the map page (Show On Map).
47 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using T racks T rack Pr ofiles Once you have saved a track, you not only have a recor d of the path you traveled but an altitude profile as well. T o view a T rack Profi le: 1. With the Saved T racks P age for the T rack displayed, press the MENU k ey to display the Profi le option.
48 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using T racks T o Use the T racBack feature: 1. With the Saved T racks P age for the track or the T rack Log displayed, highlight the T racBack button and press ENTER to display the T racBack P age . 2. A map showing the entire track appears and you are prompted to select the point you want to T racBack to .
49 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Using Routes Creating and Using a Route Route navigation allows you to create a sequence of intermediate waypoints which lead you to your fi nal destination. The GPSmap 60CS stores 50 r outes, each with up to 250 waypoints each.
50 GPSmap 60CS Using Routes GPS Navigation Methods of navigating to a destination: • When you activate the “Go T o” button on the Information Page for a User W aypoint or other Find Menu items, the GPSmap 60CS creates a straight path (point to point) from your curr ent location to that location.

54 GPSmap 60CS The Highway P age GPS Navigation The Highway Page Whenever navigating a route, the Highway Page will guide you to the destination using data fields and a graphic highway . Up to four user selectable data fields display information such as speed, distance, time to next point on the route, etc.
55 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation The Setup Menu Setup Menu The Setup Menu The Setup Menu allows you to customize the GPSmap 60CS to your personal preferences. Each selectable setup page is identified by an icon, which when highlighted displays the page when you press ENTER .
56 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Interface Setup Interface Setup The Interface Setup Page allows you to control the input/output format used when connecting your unit to a computer , exter nal NMEA devices, a DGPS beacon receiver , etc.

58 GPSmap 60CS T ones Setup The T ones Setup Page allows you to customize the signal tones for a variety of unit features. T o use the T ones Setup feature: 1. Access the T ones Setup Page . 2. Use the ROCKER k ey to highlight the feature for which you want to set a tone and press ENTER to display the options menu.
59 GPSmap 60CS T o customize the Map P age display: 1. T o access the Map Setup Pages , press the MENU k ey with the Map P age is displayed. 2. Scroll down the Menu to the “Setup Map” option and then press ENTER to display the Map Setup P age. At the top of the page are icons for each setup page .

64 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Time Setup The T ime Setup Page allows you to set the correct time for your geographic location. T o use the Time Setup feature: 1. Access the T ime Setup Page . 2. Highlight the T ime Format fi eld and press ENTER to choose from 12 or 24 (Military T ime) hour formats.
65 GPSmap 60CS Heading Setup The Heading Setup Page allows you to specify the type of heading display and the type of North Reference used to calculate your heading. Unless you have a working knowledge of Headings and North Referenc- ing, it is recommended that you use the default values.
66 GPSmap 60CS GPS Navigation Altimeter Setup Altimeter Setup The Altimeter Setup Page allows you to setup the Altimeter to self calibrate each time you turn on the unit, to function as a barometer or to manually calibrate when you have accurate elevation or pressure data.

69 GPSmap 60CS GPS Featur es Calendar The Calendar allows you to view for any given day and location; Sunrise/Sunset times, moon phase, Hunt and Fish probabilities, ar chived waypoints for activities you want to navigate to and a day , week or month format display .
70 GPSmap 60CS GPS Featur es Calculator Alarm Clock Alarm Clock The Alarm Clock Feature allows you to use your GPSmap 60CS as an alarm clock. Y ou can choose from dif ferent alarm tones, and use the “Snooze” feature to delay the alarm for an additional seven minutes.
71 GPSmap 60CS GPS Featur es Stopwatch Stopwatch This feature allows you to use the GPSmap 60CS as a stopwatch, which includes a lap timer . 75 GPSmap 60CS GPS Featur es Virtua Maze This GPS game creates a virtual maze on the screen. Y ou are placed at a central position in the maze and must explore the maze collecting flags. The lower right corner of the screen tells you how many flags remain.
76 GPSmap 60CS GPS Featur es GPS Enhanced Games Nibbons In this GPS game, you must walk around the boar d collecting the flags as they appear . As you walk, your “tail” will grow . Y ou may travel anywhere on the screen but you cannot walk on your tail, or you will lose a life.
77 GPSmap 60CS GPS Featur es Beast Hunt Although not a true GPS game, Beast Hunt requires some navigation skills, in which you must find and defeat the dragon with an arrow befor e it breathes fire at you or you fall into one of the pits while navigating a maze of platforms.

83 GPSmap 60CS Appendices Data Field Defi nitions Distance - Next - The distance to the next point on a route. Distance - Destination - The entire distance, fr om beginning to end, of a route. ET A - Next - The estimated time that you will arrive at the next point on your route, if you maintain your curr ent speed and course.
84 GPSmap 60CS Appendices Data Field Defi nitions Odometer - The total distance you have traveled for all trips. Off Course - The distance off your dir ect course line, right or left. Pointer - The arrow that indicates the dir ection to travel to the next point on a route.
